Jewish Community Center - 10x20 custom exhibit

client's comments

"The kids are really liking the exhibit. I’m excited because even on these super-hot days, more kids are coming to see the animals than to play in the water! This is a huge indication of how much the kids like it. "

design challenge

The Jewish Community Center (JCC) provides a mix of formal and informal education, recreational and cultural activities in the Chicago area, including their Apache Day Camp at their Lake Zurich, IL facility. JCC’s goal was to create a new exhibit to replace their existing “biodiversity” pavilion within the outdoor science playground. The new exhibit needed to accommodate a myriad of species including lizards, mice and insects. Additionally the viewing station needed to accurately reflect their biology theme, fit into the current surroundings, and be built at a lower height for Apache Day Campers to learn and enjoy.

design solution

Nimlok Chicago met JCC’s goals by designing a 10’x20’ display incorporating 11 terrariums, 1 aquarium and a large butterfly enclosure to create a “self-sufficient” environment to illustrate the circle of life. The metal display frames are powder coated to withstand changing weather conditions and the color was chosen to match the surrounding pavilion. Graphic elements at the base provide educational information for the children, and since the exhibit has been installed JCC has seen an increase in camper interest in the “biodiversity” display.
